New Camera Fun

I recently bought a new camera. A Canon EOS 60D, to be exact. I think my haul pictures will be fine with the current (kit) lens, but I hope to get a 50mm lens, that might help with "Portraits" of myself. Macro lenses aren't cheap, but hopefully I can save up for one.

Here's my lovely [dirty] makeup table and surrounding area... LOL.

Simply Simple

When my alarm went off at 9:55 PM, I really didn't want to get out of bed. I reset it for 10:05. I really need to leave the house by 10:20, but usually it's at least 10:25. It's a good thing work doesn't seem to mind be being late. (My shift is 11:00 PM - 7:30 AM; so if I'm "late" I just work over the few minutes.)

I threw on some jeans and a taupe shirt and really wanted to do a neutral look. Sadly, that look I did Sunday night! I settled on something a bit more less dramatic, if you could call Sunday's look, that. Mushroom from BoS Vol. II would have been perfect! Oh well, I do like how simple this came out.

Loaded with Money

I sure wish I was... sometimes. I sure hope I'd eventually have makeup overload, though! I must say I feel guilt when organizing all my pretties to find some haven't even been used ONCE! I just don't have enough eyes! Haha. Anyways, here's today Book of Shadows III Look.

I must say, much like the Naked Palette, this one lacks some Brow Bone color(s). It's a little more okay with this palette, since I feel the Naked Palette is to be a bit more "all in one" than this one. I don't feel like the Book of Shadows are realistic to travel with.

UDPP
MAC Paint Pot - Bare Study
MAC Eye Shadow - Vanilla (Brown Bone)

- Money (Lid & Crease)

Urban Decay: Naked Palette - My Thoughts

Photobucket

So, I've had the palette for almost 2 weeks and used it 6 times.
I must say, if you like neutrals, or simple looks, pick this up! It's a good price ($44 - it's permanent, so don't pay the outrageous amounts on eBay), comes with 12 eyeshadows (just for those, $3.67/ea. - which are almost the same size as their full-size at $17/ea.!), a dual-ended 24/7 Pencil (Zero/Bourbon) and even a mini Primer Potion, which should last you a long time.

Of course, it's by Urban Decay, who has AMAZING shadows, even if some of them are overloaded with chunks of glitter. ((See my Glitter Shadow tip.)) The glitter is something I could do without, however, they can be tastefully applied if you know how to work with them.

Personally, the only con I can see, for myself, would be the lack of Brow Bone shades. Sure, this palette is great for all skin tones, (Fair-Medium: Naked; Tan-Deep: Buck) but, being limited to only one color, I can see that one (in my case, Naked) getting used up fairly quick. If you use a light hand, Virgin can be a great Brow Bone color, too, but sometimes it's a bit much to use Shimmer shadows all over. The Matte-ness of Naked or Buck really breaks-up the look and completes it, in my opinion. To "save" your Brow Bone shade, make sure you only apply it there, and not all over (lash to brow) like you might be used to. If you use the Primer Potion, your Lid color should stick to it so no need to layer a shadow underneath it.

A quick word about Urban Decay's Primer Potion:
This is my most used Primer (I also own Too Face Shadow Insurance and NARS Smudge Proof Eyeshadow Base); and while my original tube is without the crooked doe-foot, I still dig in it to finish it before I decide to pitch it. I don't think it will be worth my time to cut it open, etc, especially when I just bought the Professional Size (which should be permanent!). I have what apparently seems to be super oily eye lids. I have to LAYER my primers and this is why you find me usually using a MAC Paint Pot on top of my UDPP. If you don't have MAC Paint Pots, or don't want the added color, try using 2 layers of UDPP, if your shadow seems to crease with just one. I find this works well, too. Just be sure to let your first layer dry a bit before the second. I usually do my eyebrows while the first is setting.

A quick word about Urban Decay's 24/7 Liner Pencils:
I haven't tried the lip pencils, but find the eye pencils very good for my top or bottom lash line. For my waterline, not so much. I don't find they show up near as pigmented (which is part of the reason I bought colors besides black) and you really have to make sure you waterline is dry before applying, or they just won't show up. Honestly, I don't even try to use them on my waterline anymore. Urban Decay does say they can be used for the waterline (inner lid) so maybe they do work for some, just not me.

I had originally thought about using Pinks, however, after applying Bordello, I was immediately drawn to Rockstar. This color is half the reason I caved and bought the palette!

Very QUICK BoS Vol. III Look

So, I did it... barely! When I woke up, I really didn't feel like putting on eyeshadow. I'm back on nights (11pm - 7:30am) and since I really don't see anyone until they start arriving in the morning, for months now, I haven't really put any effort into my makeup. However, I really wanted to come through for you guys, and went for a very neutral look. It was quick, easy and I'm fairy impressed with my choice(s).

One tip when using Urban Decay (or possibly any other brand) SUPER glittery shadows: dip your brush in, as you normally would, but make sure to tap it off VERY well. With a good brush (I use mostly MAC) the color will stay but the majority of the glitter will fall off. A bit of glitter is fine, but on your cheeks, it's not intended for!

UD Book of Shadows Vol. III:

Smoky Naked

Yippie, I succeeded in using my Urban Decay Naked Palette all week AND taking pictures! Lets hope I can do the same for my Book of Shadows III, next week! Today you get a FULL Face of the Day, and not just eyes. I wore different foundations this week to see what looked best/lasted, and while I can't pick a clear winner (yet), I do love my NARS Sheer Glow. :-D This is actually the first day this week I wore any lip color. I generally drink water all day long (out of a bottle) so I find it kind of pointless to wear lipstick.

Urban Decay: Book of Shadows Vol. III

YIPPIE!!! It's here!!! But by a slim shot!

I was sitting at my computer, reading Google Reader, as I normally do when I get home from work, when I see someone else got theirs in the mail, today. CRAP! I FORGOT TO GET THE MAIL!!! I looked at the clock and saw it was 4:28! Our P.O. closes at 4:30! (I live in a tiny town without postal delivery, so we have a P.O. Box.) I quickly hopped in my car and drove the 4 blocks, ran in, opened my box and saw the slip for a package! The door to the main desk was closed, but I attempted to open it anyways. THANKFULLY the lady was still there and let me get my package. Usually she's not that nice... but that's another story.

This is so beautiful so grab one while you can! I really regret not getting the Alice in Wonderland one... maybe I'll be able to nab one on eBay for a decent price... someday. Someone out bid me by $1 for a fairly good priced one ($71 plus 10 shipping). I so would have won, but I was bidding on my slow BB as we were out shopping. :o(

Gray Naked

Another look with my Naked Palette. I really like this before leaving the house, but as the day went on, I wasn't to keen on it. I'm thinking if I had used Black liner on my Top Lash Line, it might have looked better.

Make Up For Ever Haul

I ordered a few things from the MUFE Store in New York. They carry the full line of MUFE, unlike Sephora. At Sephora you can only get eyeshadows in the "pots", while you can order the pans from the NY Store, or visit it yourself. The cost of Diamond Shadows is $15 (pot $20) and Regular/Blush is $13 (pot $19). It's also important to note, these are larger than MAC Shadows. MUFE are 0.08oz, and MAC is 0.05oz.

The shadows I picked up are avaliable as a quad, from Sephora, called Rock For Ever, but it's currently out of stock. :-(

What I picked up:
20 Pan Palette
Rouge Artist Intense - 43 Moulin Rouge
Glossy Full Couleur - 1 Cherry Red
Diamond Shadow - 307 Diamond Black
Diamond Shadow - 306 Diamond Beige
Eye Shadow - 82 Silver
Eye Shadow - 7 White Shimmer
